From AITECE 2003-05-26 Dear Aitece Teacher, Over the weekend the news from Hong Kong and the mainland was good. At the end of last week the WHO removed its travel advisory against visiting Hong Kong and Guangdong and on Saturday there were no new cases in Hong Kong though on Sunday there was one. It is great that Guangdong's effort at control have been successful too. There were 16 new cases reported on the mainland yesterday which is quite small considering the size of the country. The spread in Beijing - which was the most alarming -- is now thought to have peaked and in the weeks ahead the good news should apply to the other parts of China too. Already schools have reopened in many areas though some cities remain cautious which is good too. I am sure the teachers will be happy to get back to regular classes and to having a bit more freedom to move around. However, there is still need to take precautions. ..... Hopefully Sars will not be the main topic of our communications for much longer. Thank you for all the feed-back on your own situation and it is great to see all our teachers coping so well. With every best wish, from Hugh and all in Hong Kong.
