Visit to all centers (Assisi, Ricci School, Marco Polo, Bahkita, Mazenod, Ricci
Memorial Center)
+ CAS + Zhaoqing's two ecclesia + "Red
Building" (...The One Day Super Tour...)
by two very special people - Fr Matthew Carpenter & Thomas Li,
director and deputy director of New China
Link,
a development agency in rural Guizhou (where most of our migrant worker families
in Zhaoqing come from)
Matt, from Ireland, has been in China as a teacher and project worker for 26
years
....and once had the honor of being invited to a reception
in Beijing's Great Hall of The People hosted by Zhu Rong Ji
whom he met in person.
Matt & Thomas are trying to start vocational/technical schools in
Guizhou
to cater for the vast majority of students who are not university-bound.
Matt recommends that China8 help work for the setting up of a
technical school in Zhaoqing
- especially for students from migrant worker families.
He's right of course...it's a coming need....
very few of the migrant worker children will go far in secondary school,
and technical skills training in partnership with companies/factories is most
desirable/practical.
DV when China8 website is soon upgraded and more local people support our work
....maybe a technical training center is not impossible.
So far I know of only two of our former students who are in the work force
....two girls...both aged about 15....Helen & Lisa....sent to work long
hours in factories to get money for their families.
If only they could have had some technical training a
better job/life would have been accessible
