When SARS was raging in Hong Kong (...more than 100 people died...)
Chinese Premier Wan Jiabo went to HK to encourage everyone to keep up the fight.
At a huge reception at the HK Convention Center he met representatives of the
whole community of HK.
Of all the thousands of schools in HK (kindergarten/primary/secondary) one
school was chosen to select a student
to represent the several hundred thousand students in HK.
That school was the Oblate Primary
School in Tokwawan....chosen because of its high academic and caring
standard
Premier Wan with a very privileged Oblate Primary School student
Also because
of its outstanding record,
the Oblate Primary School was one of not many "two session" schools
(1,000 children in morning, another 1,000 in afternoon....each group with its
own staff and principal)
given the ok by HK government to split into two separate campuses and
become two full day schools.
Today, the new campus, the new school, Saint Eugene de Mazenod Oblate
Primary School,
was blessed and opened by Cardinal Joseph Zen
.....with the smiling photo of Premier Wan at the main entrance
Maybe some day
Premier Wan will have contact with our little Mazenod
Center for poor children in Zhaoqing,
or Mazenod College in Melbourne,
or Mazenod College in Perth
.... all animated by the same spirit of service and dedication
practised by Saint
Eugene de Mazenod long ago
